SC Deer Season Starts In August; Cypress Creek Velvet Buck AirGun Kill On TV This Weekend

The big hogs aren’t moving for the most part until the sun has long gone down and the temperature finally drops down below 90. And we have only lately gotten some much needed rain to wet the ground and encourage the hogs to move. Fortunately we have still been busy making changes due to our lodge move and haven’t had many hunters in camp to deal with the slow movement and unbearable heat. However the few that have braved the bugs and heat with us in the last month have had some luck including Travis and Brian, both down from MD. Brian killed one meat hog and missed another while Travis hammered a great 154lb. boar that was running late getting back to his bed after sunrise. And before they were here, Lee killed a nice boar hog, while this past weekend, our good friend Jeff B., back from his tour in Afganistan, also killed a great 150lb boar hog while almost getting one  with his bow. We also had quite a few sightings that the hunters just couldn’t turn into kills as well as some misses that just happen when you hunt.

But while the hogs haven’t been moving much in this heat, the deer are in their light, summer coats and much more able to deal with the hot  temps. And they are everywhere right now including the big cotton and peanut fields in the middle of the day! And this great summer movement will last right up until the end of August when the bucks lose the velvet off of their antlers. So that is why YOU need to be calling right  now to get on the books for some great early-season deer hunting that starts on August 15th. We are working hard everyday right now getting everything ready including planting some delicious pea food plots to go with our bigger commercial fields full of deer treats, so we are anticipating some great  velvet buck hunting. So please come join us for great hunting with amazing country meals! Just give Becky a call to set up your hunt.
