New Year Starts Best Time For South Carolina Hog Hunting

Well, after 52 weeks of great hunting in 2010, Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge wrapped up another year with a couple of returning hunters looking for one last adventure. And despite some tough, cold, windy weather, all of them went home after successful hunts. Monica and her son Brian, both here just a few weeks ago, shot a giant lowcountry doe after seeing tons of deer. And Scott, who killed a nice 8 point in Nov., was also back again, but this time with his daughter Shelby; and they also had a great hunt that included the harvesting of a big doe.

Now with the end of deer season, that has left the stands empty and the woods quiet. This downtime is allowing our lowcountry hogs to settle down while we prepare for the best time of the year in South Carolina to kill a gnarly old hog. Because while we shoot some hogs all year long, late winter and early Spring offer the best conditions and highest success rates on our old boars due to the lack of hunting pressure all around us, the lack of food everywhere and the cold conditions which make it imperative for the hogs to move to eat to survive. And all of these factors combine to make some great hunting for big hogs! So if you are interested in putting a big, ugly hog on the wall and some tasty pork in the freezer, just give Becky a call to see what dates we have left.

This starts on March 15th and runs through May 1st, and it allows hunters to hunt turkeys in the AM when they are the most vocal and then hunt hogs in the PM when they move the best.

This is truly one of the best hunts that we have here in the South Carolina lowcountry since you hunt each animal at the most productive times of the day! So again, make sure and call Becky ASAP to see what dates we have left! We truly look forward to sharing a great lowcountry hunting experience with you in 2011.
