How about starting the SC Deer Season off at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge with two record book bucks!

Yes, I mean two huge 10pt bucks, one 10pt scored 147 5/8″ and the other buck scored 153 1/4″.  These two bucks were killed less than 800 yards apart.  In addition to these two giant 10 pointers, another 10pt about the same size and a 12pt buck in the 160 class were also seen, but not yet harvested.  The first three days of the season there were 27 shots taken at big bucks and hogs.  Several other nice 8 pointers were harvested and a huge 9pt buck. Several nice hogs hit the ground by our hunters as well.

So far our success rate for the beginning of the 2013 season has been over 220% per hunter.  We have gotten off to a great start this year at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge and we plan to continue this outstanding success.  The pictures of the bucks and hogs harvested at Cypress Creek are testimony to the management and efforts that we work and strive so hard for.  We are expecting an exceptional season this year as we hunt the South Carolina deer, hogs, turkey and alligators.  We expect to continue breaking new records this year.

Just before the deer season started, we had a few last minute hog hunters show up for some hog hunting.  One hunter was David from MD.  This was David’s first hunt at Cypress Creek and he took a fine boar back home to MD.

DSCN0232Next we had our great friend David from Hilton Head Island, SC to come over for a one afternoon hunt and harvested this 200# plus boar.  Way to go again David!

Danial & Sammi were down from MD to try hog hunting and they both had success.  Danial took a nice meat hog and Sammi on her first hunt ever, took a great boar with one good shot.  Congratulations!DSCN0234DSCN0237

Now for the South Carolina deer season!  Bucks in Velvet!

Aaron & his wife Melanie were down south again from PA with some friends to share some outstanding hunting success.  Aaron started off with a nice velvet 7pt buck and then took a good hog.DSC01653  Melanie had several opportunities but missed on two nice hogs out of a group of over thirty.  Later she managed to hit a real nice buck, but after hours of tracking was never recovered.  The couple will be returning in January for more hunting opportunities.  They also plan to do the Pheasant Hill Trophy Hunt next August.  Good decision!

Our next guest was our great friend Nick, Sr. from PA better known as “Pops”.  Pops will be 90 years young and I do mean young, in December. DSCN0266 Pops can hang with the 30 year olds and usually comes out on top.  Pops lead the PA group with the biggest buck in the bunch with a huge 9pt velvet buck. DSCN0261 Way to go Pops!  Pops is a real inspiration to all that come in contact with him and he is a great role model.  Thanks Pops for being our friend and for the special person that you are.  Oh, and thanks for the tootsie rolls!

Pop’s son Eric and grandson Nick, Jr. were also on the hunt and they too had great success.  Nick, Jr. took a big tusked 200# plus boar while his dad Eric took a nice hog.  Eric also took a good 6pt buck and a beautiful 8pt buck. DSCN0249 Three generations of hunters and do they know how to get it done.  A great time shared in the SC Outdoors.

DSCN0256Pop’s son-in-law Tom and another grandson Kyle rounded out this group of PA hunters and they too harvested good animals.  Tom missed a big 8pt buck but made up for it when he took 2 good hogs.

Kyle passed on some small bucks and finally settled his sights on a nice mature 6pt buck.  Kyle always holds out to the last hunt, but always comes through.  Way to go guys!DSC01658DSCN0257

Mark and his son, Zachery joined the group hunt and they had some action of their own.  Mark missed on a fine 8pt buck but his son Zachery managed to harvest his first buck ever with a nice 4pt buck!  Congrats!DSCN0243

Our next hunters were our great friends, David and his son, Cody from Northern Virginia.  They shared another fine father and son hunt together.  In efforts to get young Cody a nice buck the conditions were tough. DSC01661 They had some good opportunities on a good 6pt buck, an 8pt buck and a huge 10pt buck, but the bucks managed to escape without a scratch.  Cody did manage to end the hunt on a great shot with a nice hog.  The next time the big bucks are going down!

Now the bucks for the record books!

The first huge 10 pointer was harvested by our good friend Guy from NJ.  The evening before Guy harvested this great buck, he got a good look at what a well managed property can be like in South Carolina.  In the fields the day before he shot the buck, Guy had a total of 54 deer in the field with 27 bucks.  This set him up for the next evening hunt when a giant 160 class 12 pointer stepped out, but once Guy recovered from the shock of seeing this giant buck, the deer moved away not offering a shot.  GuyA short time later the field began to fill with deer and some were good bucks.  Finally the huge 147 3/8″ buck appeared at about 400 yards.  Guy was using Danny’s precision rifle with a Night Force scope when the huge buck offered a broad side shot at 425 yards.  Guy dropped the big buck in his tracks.  Guy is still recovering!

The same afternoon in a field just 600 yards across a strip of woods from Guy’s stand, Mike Casstevens was in a similar field hunting.  The biggest of the three 10pt bucks ended up on his field.  It was getting late and the giant 10pt finally showed up and Mike made his “one shot, one kill” harvest.  Mike’s huge buck scored 153 1/4″.  This caliber of bucks are good anywhere, and especially in South Carolina.  Mike Casstevens

The good thing in that there are more like them in our woods at Cypress Creek and at least one even bigger.  The race is on now for the giant 160 class 12 pointer that is still roaming our woods!  Come join us at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge as we “Pursue the Experience”.
