After a pretty warm fall, winter has finally arrived in the lowcountry with the low temperatures this week reaching into the teens and the highs only getting to the 40s. And this super cold weather has the deer and hogs up and on the move for food, which is just what our late season hunters needed to put some animals on the ground!

Our good buddy Frank from upstate NY was down again for a few days, looking for some warmer weather which he didn’t get. However, while he had to endure the same cold as at his home, he did get a shot at a unique trophy – a nice 6pt with some messed up hooves. Just check them out in the pics… only one hoof was normal while the other three all had something crazy going on with them. One back hoof had a super long side that curled backwards while the two front ones were club-footed, making the buck barely able to walk.

_mg_1236webIn addition to Frank’s buck, we also had several other nice trophies killed. First, fellow SC resident, Jay, hunting with his friend Bud for two days was able to shoot a nice 8 point. We also had Wisconsin native Kevin over from Augusta, GA for just one day with two of his buddies, and he killed a great 8 point over on Boggy during a morning hunt. And we can’t _mg_1238webforget about our good friends Joe, Gene and his brother Randy from NC who join us once a month for a day of hog hunting. And this time it was Joe’s turn to put a good porker down. Unfortunately for us, the shot glanced off a pine tree before hitting him, and that allowed him to get DEEP into the briars – were we had to go and get him! But the pain didn’t stop us, and in the end, we did recover the great boar; but we looked almost as bad as he did by the time we were done crawling around in the thick stuff to retrieve him šŸ™‚

Now, with the cold weather holding here in SC, we await a big group for this coming weekend, so hopefully the animals will keep moving for us like they have over the past week. Then we get into final days of the South Carolina deer season before it ends on January 1st. So there are still a few days left for anyone looking to join us for one last shot a putting a trophy on the wall and some meat in the freezer before we wrap it up for 8 months. Come join the hunters like Brian and his mom Monica who are coming back this month for another shot at their first deer before the season ends.
