South Carolina Gator Hunting Success and Special

Man, what a hunt our father/son team of Steve and Stephen had while hunting with us here in the lowcountry last weekend.

_mg_4072printThey came over from Charleston for two days hoping to get in some deer and hog hunting in while Stephen also hoped to take a nice gator too. Well after a morning of trying to get a shot on a big gator that just never gave us close shot, we took a lunch break and then went back that afternoon to try again. This time the big beast was lurking closer to the shore and presented Stephen with a 100 yard shot – which hit just in front of him and sent him down under for a while. However when the giant alligator finally surfaced again just a little further out, Stephen hit him solidly in the head and put him right out.

We knew it was a good one based on the gap between his nose and eyes, but since he wouldn’t ever really give us a good look at him, we couldn’t really tell for sure exactly how fat he was. But when he rolled over at the shot and waved his HUGE foot (which they all do when hit well), we knew he was a monster. However it wasn’t until we took the boat out to retrieve him did we really see how massive he was and how much trouble we would have getting him back to shore. We were definitely going to need some assistance getting the 10 foot, 500lb gator out of the water and loaded up!

However the day was not over for the father/son team, and they hurried to get ready to deer and hog hunt for the afternoon. And what a good choice that turned out to be for Steve when a monster buck stepped out just before total darkness into the iron clay pea field that he was sitting on. The great 8 point had long beams, tall tines and a lot of mass; it was also Steve’s biggest deer ever!

We also had a few other hunters that weekend including Nathan who rolled up a nice doe, but unfortunately the weather had turned warm again along with some heavy rain showers, and that all really slowed the hog movement back up from where it had been two weeks ago. Fortunately everyone had a fantastic time with us, and that is what hunting is really all about. We now look forward to our crew from Jersey and Maryland coming back for another chance in the near future!

As for us, we have a small break from hunters this week. So we have taken this opportunity to get all of our fall food plots disced up and ready to be planted next week with clover, wheat and oats. We also worked on moving a few stands around that we felt could be better for our hunters and give them a better shot at a big buck during the rut that is already starting to slowly crank up.

_mg_4060printBut while we are preparing to start the best deer hunting of the year, we still have a little over two weeks left in our SC alligator season. So to celebrate the killing of our largest alligator to date here at Cypress Creek Hunting Lodge, we are offering a great special on our gator hunts between now until the end of this season on October 15th: Come and shoot any alligator between the minimum 4 foot and 7 foot for just $900. That is a great offer and gives the hunter up to $500 off!!! Please give Becky a call ASAP to take advantage of this. We would love to put you on one of our modern-day dinosaurs!
